Faith Development Team

Faith Development is one of the many Ministry Teams within the Church Council structure at Wesley United Church. The work of the team is centered around its mandate and its members work diligently toward achieving its goals.

The mandate of the Team is as follows:

To guide the people of the Church into a deeper relationship with God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, and to find enjoyment in being a part of the Church, doing God's work and knowing the pleasure of being a Christian through prayer and the study of God's Word.

Some of the ways in which they hope to accomplish their mandate are:

work closely with the Ministry Personnel to initiate and foster Biblical teaching in the congregation; eg. suggesting sermon topics, teaching topics and to initiate guided Bible study groups, particularly on the model of the Alpha Course
to encourage members of the congregation to do creative story-telling for the spiritual benefit of all
to initiate and continue prayer groups; to organize prayer chains, prayer vigils, small discussion groups, "house churches", "home pastors" and groups to help those who are seeking
to interact with other Churches and Faith Communities to build a stronger faith relationship with them
report regularly to the Church Council and prepare and annual report for the congregation

As part of its response, the Faith Development Team has begun a Prayer Group which meets one half hour before our Bible Study Group. The usual night for Bible Study is Monday (with some exceptions) at 7:30 pm. The Prayer Group spends time in communal prayer, lifting up individuals that have requested prayer for particular circumstances in life. The Prayer Group is normally led by our Minister but our chairperson, Lloyd Baker, also assumes a leadership role within the group.

The Fellowship Ministry Team is comprised of: Lloyd Baker (Chairperson), Jean Baker, Mildred Cousens, Gord Cousens, Marjorie Collins, Mary Coffen, and Phyllis Butt.

Worship Team

The Worship Team is responsible for the spiritual aspects of the life and work of Wesley United Church. The Team is dedicated to the provision of opportunities for members, adherents and others to share and express their faith in a safe environment. The Team co-ordinates, with the ministry personnel, the conducting of Sunday worship services as well as other special services and events. Along with the ministry personnel, the Worship Team oversees baptism, communion and confirmation. Members of the Worship Team prepare the sacrament of communion each month and the chairperson/Clerk of Session assists in the serving of communion and presents candidates for baptism and confirmation.
