Baptism Information
The Sacrament of Baptism, whatever the age of the Candidate, is the sole rite of initiation into communicant membership in the Christian community, the body of Christ. The service celebrates the graceful initiative of God in calling and claiming us and the faith response of the people, both as individuals and community.
At Wesley United Church, the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of each month during the morning worship service. Candidates for baptism may be individuals of any age, with parents speaking on behalf of infants and young children. We believe Baptism to be a community celebration and welcoming event and, therefore, private baptisms will not be performed, except under exceptional circumstances.
Within the tradition at Wesley United Church, we do not acknowledge godparents in the traditional sense of the word. However, we do recognize that there are special family members and friends whom you might wish to be present at the Baptism. An invitation is always extended to family and friends to stand with the Candidates, or the Parents, as they are welcomed into the Christian Community.
If you wish to be baptised, or wish your child(ren) to be baptised, please contact the Office Administrator at 579-3682 so she can arrange an appointment for you with the Minister.
